We met lots of people during the vacation, but never really got to know anyone. That is wonderful for an author, because it means I could speculate on who exactly these people were. What was the motivation behind this action? What in his or her background made them behave that way? Why was that person so passionate about a belief?

Being on an almost two week cruise and taking as many tours as we did meant that we got to see some people more than others. The tours we took were almost all historically-oriented, so people with the same interests as us were often taking the same tours. Since the Queen Elizabeth is a big ship, there was usually more than one bus per tour destination, so we weren’t always in the same groups, but we often saw the people who had been on another tour with us, and sometimes their behavior made them stand out from the rest.

Each month I’m going to do a characterization of a person, usually someone who relates to that port of call. A small vignette on cruising and just for fun.
