December’s site header is a Greek Orthodox church in the Plaka, or old town, area of Athens. We came across the church as we were trying (not too successfully) to find our way home after dinner on our first night in Athens.

The church was nestled in a little square surrounded by modern and some not so modern office buildings. The tree on the left either a lemon or a lime tree. If you look closely you can see the fruit hiding in the glossy leaves. I chose this picture because I loved this church. Coming across it was such an unexpected surprise and a foreshadowing of the many delightful wonders to come.
